Bruins Fall in San Diego Crew Classic Grand Finals

In Sunday's Grand Finals of the San Diego Crew Classic, the UCLA women's rowing team came up short against a handful of tough competitors. After earning a spot in the Grand Finals in a successful first day of competition, all three UCLA squads failed to finish on top.

The varsity eight finished with a time of 7:01.97 to capture fifth place in the Grand Final. Cal captured the Jessop-Whittier Cup with a time of 6:52.10 and was followed by USC (6:54.29), Washington State (6:57.83), and Notre Dame (6:58.66). Wisconsin finished behind UCLA with a time of 7:05.81.

Both UCLA's second varsity eight and freshman eight raced to a sixth place finish in their respective Grand Finals. The second varsity finished with a time of 7:04.89 while the freshman eight crossed the line in 7:04.68.

Up Next -- The Bruins will host Minnesota on Saturday, April 8th. This will be the fourth year of competition between the two young programs. Last year, the Bruins traveled to Minnesota where the Gophers captured a win in the varsity eight category while the Bruin's second varsity pulled out a victory.
