Bruin Rowers to Take on Golden Gophers of Minnesota
April 6, 2006
The UCLA women's rowing team will host Minnesota on Saturday, April 8th in Marina del Rey. This year marks the fourth and final year of the dual meet between the two young programs. The yearly tradition was arranged by UCLA head coach Amy Fuller Kearney and the head coach of Minnesota, Wendy Davis, a UCLA alumnus.
The Bruins will participate in three events including the varsity four, second varsity eight, and varsity eight. In the varsity four, two Bruin boats will compete against the Long Beach Masters crew which is comprised of rowing standouts Joan Lind Van Blom, three-time U.S. Olympian; Sherri Kiklas, two-time member of the U.S. lightweight national team; Wendy O'Brien, repeat Canadian national champion; and Helen Frykman, Stanford alumnus.
Competing in UCLA's varsity eight this weekend will be Vanessa Teff (stroke), Patricia Dudziec, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Herron, Elizabeth Lee, Alexandra Howard, Erin Rice, Erin Haggerty, and Kirsten Potenza (cox).
The second varsity eight lineup will be Leah Wachtel (stroke), Bailey Blosser, Jessica Fritz, Vanessa Jansen, Brittany Merchant, Sarah Lombardo, Katja Wanberg, Alexis Kalionzes, and Megan McQuown (cox).
The lineups for the varsity four boats will be determined closer to race-day.

After competing at the San Diego Crew Classic last weekend, the Bruin's V8 is now ranked 14th in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll.
