California Track and Field Opens Action at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The California track and field team opened action at the 79th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Thursday. The team had a very successful outing on both the track and on the field.
Sophomore John Ludden opened the Texas Relays with his best performance of the season in the hammer. Ludden finished eighth in the men's hammer with a season-best mark of 59.54m (195-04). Ludden's mark was a regional qualifying mark and ranks him eighth on Cal's all-time list. Freshman Nate Rolfe also had an impressive outing in the hammer, finishing in fifth place with a regional qualifying mark of 61.54m (201-11).
Also competing for Cal on Thursday was freshman sensation Jake Hanson in the preliminary round of the men's 400m hurdles. Hanson finished second in his heat with a regional qualifying time of 52.38, but just fell short of the qualifying mark for the finals on Saturday. Hanson will continue action tomorrow joining his team in the men's 4x400m relay.
In the field events for the Cal women, Junior Carrie Johnson finished tenth in the women's hammer throw with a regional qualifying mark of 55.02m (180-06).
California will continue action at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, tomorrow. Some of Friday's events will showcase freshman Nate Rolfe and sophomore John Ludden in the discus, senior Antonette Carter in the long jump, freshman Kandi Bonty in the 100m, senior Osarhiemen Omwanghe in both the 100m and 100m hurdles, and both men's and women's 4x400m relay teams. The meet is being held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the Texas campus.
