Huskies Blank Sun Devils, 8-0
April 7, 2006
Tempe, Ariz. - The Arizona State Sun Devils could not overcome six errors in the field and a nearly flawless pitching performance by the Washington Huskies, as they fell 8-0 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark on Friday night. The Sun Devils (23-10) were held to just two hits and scored no runs for just the second time this season, as they fell to 2-2 in Pac-10 Conference play.
Washington starter Tim Lincecum (7-2) went the distance, striking out 11 Sun Devils and scattering two hits. ASU's Pat Bresnehan (3-2), who went five innings in the start, and Brett Bruneel surrendered only one earned run apiece and struck out a combined seven Husky batters on the night.
It was a season-high six errors by the Sun Devils that accounted for six unearned runs and put the game out of reach early against dominating Husky pitching.
The Sun Devils committed two errors in both the fourth and ninth innings, but it only took one unearned run, scored in the top of the second on a throwing error at second, to secure the victory for the Huskies.
The Sun Devils and Huskies will play the second game of the three-game set on Saturday as they get underway at noon MST in a nationally-televised game by Fox Sports Net in Tempe.
