California Track and Field Wraps Up Action at the Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The California track and field team wrapped up action at the 79th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Saturday, with a successful run in the men's javelin and again in the men's and women's relays for the second consecutive day.

Freshman Ryan Young and Junior Paul Tienert made their presence known in the finals of the men's javelin. Young finished in seventh place with a regional qualifying mark of 66.49m (218-02). Tienert finished just below Young in tenth place with a regional qualifying mark of 66.44m (211-05).

The women's 4 x 200m relay team of freshmen Kristin Holmes and Kandi Bonty, along with seniors Tiffany Johnson and Antonette Carter set a school record in the event with their time of 1:35.79. The time gave them a fourth place finish. The Cal 4 x 100m relay team of seniors Osarhiemen Omwanghe, Carter, Holmes and senior Tiffany Johnson were clocked at the California school's second-best time, 44.99.

The 4 x 400m relay team of sophomores Brook Turner and Alysia Johnson, freshman Mackenize Pierce and Artensia Young were clocked with the time of 3:40.22.

The men's distance medley relay team of sophomores Alex and Andy McClary, senior Nestor Solis and freshman Mark Matusak finished fourth with their time of 9:51.18.

California will return home next weekend for the Ninth Annual Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday, April 15 at Edwards Stadium.
