USC's Powell Wins the Women's 100m HH Invitational At The Texas Relays

USC's Virginia Powell just keeps on rolling, winning the women's 100m HH invitational today (April 8) in the final day of competition at the 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Tex.
The senior defeated an elite field of hurdlers with ease, finishing with a wind-aided time of 12.79. Tony D'Andley, running unattached, finished second with a time of 13.27 and Fanny Gerance of France placed third with a time of 13.29.
Trojan junior Candice Davis placed second in the university women's 100m HH event with a personal-best time of 13.10. Sophomore Carol Rodriguez placed sixth in the women's 100m dash, posting a personal-best non-wind-aided time of 11.39.
Powell, sophomore Jessica Onyepunuka, Davis and Rodriguez teamed up to run a season best 43.84 in the women's 4x100m race to place third.
Senior Karen Freberg posted her farthest distance of the season with a shot put of 55-5 (16.89m) to finish fourth. Her throw was the third farthest in school history.
In the women's triple jump, junior Michelle Sanford placed eighth with a season-best jump of 43-0 1/4 (13.11m) and freshman Brittany Daniels finished 12th with a jump of 41-8 3/4 (12.72m). Freshman pole vaulter Brysun Stately placed 13th, clearing a height of 12-5 1/2 (3.80m).
For the Trojan men, the 4x100m relay team of senior Philip Francis, senior Garry Jones, freshman Matthew Palmer and sophomore Roy Alugbue ran a 39.86 time to place fourth. The men's 4x400m relay team of sophomore Kai Kelley, senior Jeff Garrison, junior Raphael Asafo-Agyei and sophomore Lionel Larry ran a season best 3:06.37 to take eighth place.
The USC men's distance medley relay team of Asafo-Agyei, sophomore Duane Solomon, senior Tomasz Babiszkiewicz and junior DeSean Cunningham finished second with a time of 9:49.99.
