No. 14 Cal Finishes Second at Peg Barnard Collegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - Fourteenth-ranked California placed second Sunday with a score of 590 at the Peg Barnard Collegiate at Stanford Golf Course. The Golden Bears fired a seven-over 291 in the final round to finish two shots behind No. 6 USC (588). The Women of Troy started the day in first one shot ahead of the Bears and gained one shot by tallying a team score of 290 in the final round.

This marks Cal's best showing of the 2005-06 season after the Bears recorded two third-place results in February. Host Stanford took third at 592 at the 15-team Peg Barnard Collegiate, followed by No. 19 Ohio State (601), and Washington State (606).

The Women of Troy's Irene Cho carded a four-under 67 today to move from second to first with a two-day total of five-under 137. San Francisco's Jessica Potter grabbed second at 143, while Cal seniors Sofie Andersson (144) and Sophia Sheridan (145) placed third and fourth, respectively. Andersson, who shot an even-par 71 today, matched her best performance of the season, as she led the Bears for the fifth time in 2005-06. Sheridan finished the tournament with a 72.

Cal freshman Allison Goodman tied for 16th at 150 for her best finish of the season. Goodman posted a 73 in the final round. Bears junior Mika Takayama turned in a tie for 22nd (151) after today's round of 75. Freshman Shannon Yocum rebounded from a score of 83 Saturday to shoot a 76 Sunday. Sophomore Enu Chung, who was competing as an individual, also showed improvement today with a round of 77.

Cal returns to action at the Pac-10 Championships April 24-26 in Tucson, Ariz.
