Bears Wrap up Swimming World Championships

SHANGHAI, China - Former California All-Americans Duje Draganja and Alex Lim combined for three top 10 finishes as the FINA Short Course World Championships wrapped up over the weekend at Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai Qi Zhong Forest Sports City to the southwest of Shanghai.
Draganja, swimming for Croatia, took sixth place in the 50-meter butterfly final in a time of 23.37 on Saturday. Australia's Matthew Welsh (23.05) won the race. Draganja, the 2004-05 Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year, also swam the butterfly leg of Croatia's 4x100-meter medley relay, which took sixth place in a time of 3:34.14 in the final on Sunday.
Lim, swimming for Malaysia, was seventh in the 50-meter backstroke final in a time of 24.40 on Saturday. Welsh (23.53) also won the 50 back.
Current Golden Bears junior All-American Jonas Tilly and former All-American teammate Rolandas Gimbutis also competed at Worlds. On Saturday, Tilly, swimming for Sweden, was 27th in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 49.48 and Gimbutis, swimming for Lithuania, took 14th place in the semifinal round of the 100 free, swimming a 48.78. South Africa's Ryk Neethling (47.24) won the 100 free final on Sunday.
