Bruin Rowers Head North for Stanford Invitational

The UCLA women's rowing team will travel to Redwood Shores, Calif. for the two-day Stanford Invitational which starts on Friday, April 14th. UCLA will be entering four boats in the competition including the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and freshman eight.
Racing in UCLA's varsity eight will be Vanessa Teff (stroke), Patricia Dudziec, Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Elizabeth Herron, Elizabeth Lee, Alexandra Howard, Erin Rice, Erin Haggerty, and Kirsten Potenza (cox).
The lineup for the second varsity eight will be Leah Wachtel (stroke), Bailey Blosser, Jessica Fritz, Vanessa Jansen, Brittany Merchant, Sarah Lombardo, Katja Wanberg, Alexis Kalionzes, and Megan McQuown (cox).
The new lineup for the freshman eight will be Laura Garnett (stroke), Jennifer Weber, Katie Virk, Kerry Kilduff, Megan Lightfoot, Sheerin Salimi, Laura Ferretti, Bree Hemingway, and Emily Wachtel (cox).
At last year's Stanford Invitational, UCLA's varsity eight and second varsity eight defeated Clemson and Texas, but fell to Virginia. The Bruins will look to improve on last year's results.
This year, UCLA will be facing top competitors in Tennessee, Central Florida and Clemson. In the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll, UCLA's varsity eight is ranked 14th, while Tennessee is ranked 15th. Central Florida has also drawn recognition, receiving one vote.
UCLA's first race on Friday is at 3:10 pm against Tennessee. On Saturday, UCLA's races start at 9:50 am against Clemson.
LOOKING AHEAD -- The Bruins will host the 31st annual Miller Cup on Sunday, April 23rd. Attending the event will be San Diego State, UC Irvine, Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego and UC Santa Barbara. UCLA will look to capture the cup for the fourth consecutive year.
