Cal Football Squad Completes Third Week Of Drills

April 15, 2006

BERKELEY - The University of California football squad finished its third week of spring drills on Saturday morning with a lengthy situational scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

The Bears, who spent the morning working in varying degrees of rain, will complete spring drills on April 22nd with their final workout until August.

Some familiar names fared well in the scrimmage portion of Saturday's practice session. Junior running back Justin Forsett reeled off a 36- and 17-yard runs and was also effective in the situational portion of the scrimmage.

Rising senior quarterback Steve Levy found Lavelle Hawkins for a 54-yard touchdown and another senior signal caller, Joe Ayoob hit Noah Smith for a 40-yard gain.

'I think all of the quarterbacks (Ayoob, Levy, Nate Longshore and Kyle Reed) have some things they are doing well,' head coach Jeff Tedford said after the workout. 'As I said last week, the experience Joe gained last season is very evident. They all will continue to work at getting better --- like everyone else.'
