Leach Opens Up in 400m Hurdles With a Win at Long Beach Invite

Freshman Nicole Leach opened up in the 400m hurdles on Friday at the Long Beach Invitational with a bang, running the No. 3 time in college so far this season. Leach won the event by nearly five seconds with a lifetime-best and regional qualifying run of 56.89.
Several Bruins were slated to compete at the LB Invitational, but heavy rains forced some of them to pull out. However, there were a few who made it through the rain to compete in their events.
Also competing in the 400m hurdles at Long Beach were sophomores Dianna Gooden and DeShanta Harris, and freshman Chanelle Curry. Curry finished sixth in a time of 1:04.83, Harris was seventh in 1:05.54, and Gooden placed ninth with a time of 1:06.56.
In the 400m, sophomore Jolanda Diego placed second overall, running 56.04. Senior Sarah West was third overall in the 5000m in a time of 18:29.41. In the pole vault, freshman Anastasia Papadakis was fifth, clearing 10-0.50.
Mt. SAC Relays
In Walnut, CA at the Mt. SAC Relays, freshman Rhonda Watkins placed second in the university/open long jump with a mark of 19-5.50. Sophomore Leslie Rychel placed ninth in the long jump, leaping 17-9.50. In the open discus, senior Briona Reynolds finished third, throwing 152-4. Sophomore Kathleen Mahony finished in a tie for second in the high jump with a mark of 5-5. Sophomore Allison Miller was 14th with a mark of 5-3.
Competition continues at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday with invitational and open events.
