Softball Game Halted Due To Rain

April 15, 2006

SEATTLE -- Heavy rain and hail led to dangerous field conditions Saturday at Husky Softball Stadium and the game between No. 1 UCLA and No. 14 Washington was halted. The game will most likely resume when the Huskies play in Los Angeles on April 26 but official word will come from the Pacific-10 Conference office early next week.

There was no score through two full innings before rain, hail and wind gusts of up to 33 mph forced a rain delay and the eventual suspension of the game.

Washington put a runner on base in both the first and second innings with walks to Sarah Hyatt and Alicia Matthews but a strikeout by Lisa Dodd in the first and a double play in the second diffused any Husky rally.

UCLA had a walk and single by Dodd in the second frame but was unable to score a run.

Dodd and UW's Danielle Lawrie each had two strikeouts through two innings.

UCLA returns to Pac-10 action next week when it hosts Oregon State and Oregon, April 21-23. Friday's game vs. OSU is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Easton Stadium.
