Cribby Gets Win In First UW Start

PORTLAND, Ore. - Sophomore Elliott Cribby threw six solid innings in his first Huskystart as the Washington baseball team beat Portland, 7-4, Monday in a non-conferencegame at Joe Etzel Field.

Cribby (5-3), who has served as the Husky closer all season, allowed two unearned runson just three hits for the win. UW ace Tim Lincecum, in his third relief appearance of theyear, notched his second career save. Lincecum fanned six in his two innings of work andran his string of consecutive scoreless innings pitched to 36 and two-thirds.

Freshman Blaine Hardy (2-2), who has started all three UP-UW games this season,suffered the loss for the Pilots (12-24). He allowed four runs on five hits over four innings.

The Huskies (25-14) got started quickly with three runs in the first. After a walk toBradley Boyer and an infield single from Danny Cox put two on with no outs, rightfielder Matt Hague launched his fifth home run of the season to left field to giveWashington the early 3-0 lead.

In the third, Hague reached first on a two-out single and then scored all the way from firstbase when Curt Rindal's single to center got past center fielder Justin Ehlers, making it a4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, after a walk and an error put two Pilots aboard with two outs,first baseman Matthew Peters lined a double to center field to drive in two, cutting theHuskies' lead to 4-2.

An RBI double from UW catcher Matt Lane in the sixth upped the lead to 5-2. In thebottom of the seventh, Pilots catcher Nik Kosach hit a solo home run off of Huskyreliever Nick Haughian to draw Portland within two runs at 5-3.

In the top of the eighth, the Huskies added two insurance runs when freshman DHTrevor Petersen lined a single to center to send home two runners.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Pilots threatened. After a double from Danny Meier, awild pitch and a walk to Peters put runners at the corners with no outs, Lincecum cameon in relief of Bryce Mooney. Lincecum fanned Travis Vetters, but the third strike gotpast the catcher, allowing a run to score. Lincecum then struck out the next two batters toend the inning with the Huskies still on top, 7-4.

In the ninth, Lincecum gave up a walk and a double, but struck out Meier for the finalout.

This Friday through Sunday, the UW faces USC at Dedeaux Field. All three games vs.the Trojans will air live on KKNW AM-1150.
