Powell Selected As Women's Pac-10 Track Athlete Of The Week

USC senior Virginia Powell was named Women's Pac-10 Track Athlete of the Week (April 10-16) for her outstanding performance in the 100m high hurdles it was announced today (April 17) by the Pac-10 Conference.
Powell ran a season and collegiate-best time this season of 12.68 to win the women's invitational 100m HH event on April 15 at the Mt. SAC Relays held in Walnut, Calif. Powell, the defending NCAA champion in the 100m HH and the winner of the last two NCAA indoor 60m HH titles, increased her national lead to 0.3 seconds over Priscilla Lopes of Nebraska (12.98), who has the second-fastest time in the event this season.
Powell also leads the Pac-10 this season with an 11.17 100m dash time, currently the fourth-fastest time by a college female this season.
Last summer, Powell tied Gail Devers NCAA record of 12.61 in the 100m hurdles on June 26 at the U.S. Track and Field Championships.
Powell has won virtually every sprint hurdles race she has entered against college runners since the beginning of her junior season. The senior is a health promotion/disease prevention major at USC.
