Stanford's Anne Yelsey Named Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD junior Anne Yelsey has been named the Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Apr. 10 - 16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Yelsey, from Newport Beach, Calif., helped the Cardinal clinch at least a share of the Pac-10 title this weekend in wins at the Arizona schools. On Friday, No. 13 Yelsey defeated No. 61 Juliette Mavroleon of Arizona in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). On Saturday, the junior rebounded from a first-set loss to Arizona State's Kady Pooler to take the 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win, extending her winning streak in dual matches this season to 20. Overall, Yelsey is 26-3 on the singles court this year.
With this weekend's wins, Stanford has won 78 conseuctive matches, breaking the NCAA record which was set by the 1988-91 Cardinal squad that won 76 straight.
This is Yelsey's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and the first weekly honor all-time for Stanford.
