Eric Sogard Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
April 18, 2006
TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore second baseman Eric Sogard has been named the Pac-10 Conference's Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It is the first Player of the Week honor in Sogard's career and the 79th time in ASU baseball history they have had a Player of the Week. Sogard is the third Sun Devil to win the award this season, joining teammates Ike Davis and Andrew Romine
Sogard, from Phoenix's Thunderbird High School, went 8-13 (.615) during ASU's 2-1 series win over the USC Trojans last weekend. He knocked in six runs, including four in Saturday's 10-9 series clincher. Sogard, who was a homer shy of hitting for the cycle on Thursday night, homered twice in Saturday's game, both two run shots that gave ASU a lead. Five of his eight hits in the three games were of the extra base variety, and Sogard raised his season average to .412. He also scored seven times over the weekend, drew three walks and played perfect defense at second base. Sogard added another hit in the game with Texas Tech on Monday night in Lubbock.
Sogard and the Sun Devils continue Pac-10 play this weekend, as they head to UCLA for a three-game series with the Bruins beginning Friday night.
