Fisher, Lewis Named Women's Basketball Associate Head Coaches

April 19, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. - Lisa Fisher and Mark Lewis have been promoted to associate head coaches for women's basketball, WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell announced Wednesday.

'I am very fortunate to not just have one but two coaches that have earned the respect of this title,' Murrell said of her long-time assistants. 'Mark and Lisa are both great teachers of the game and their years of experience have been an asset to this program. Their commitment in building a top program here at Washington State and their efforts in recruiting have not gone unnoticed as they recently were instrumental in our signing of a nationally-ranked recruiting class.'

Fisher made the move to Pullman in 2002 when Murrell took over head coaching duties at Washington State, after assisting her for one season at the University of the Pacific. Fisher currently serves as a perimeter player coach and is involved in recruiting and website coordination for the Cougars.

In addition to assisting Murrell at the UOP, Fisher previously coached at Northeastern University (2000-01) and Portland State University (1996-2000). The 2006-07 campaign will mark the eighth year that Murrell and Fisher will coach together.

A native of Portland, Ore., Fisher was a four-year standout at Boise State University, where she made a 1994 NCAA Tournament appearance with the Broncos and earned Big Sky Conference Championships in both 1992 and 1994. Fisher began her coaching career at Idaho State University in 1995, where she served as the only full-time assistant for the Bengals.

A member of the Cougar coaching staff since 2002, Lewis has coached along side Murrell since the beginning of her tenure at WSU, after joining the women's basketball program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Lewis has 21 years of collegiate coaching experience, including Western Kentucky (2001-02), Arizona State University (1996-2001), University of Cincinnati (1991-95) and Memphis State University (1985-1991). During his four years at WSU, Lewis has helped recruit and develop players such as Kate Benz, the two-time Pac-10 rebounding champion, and Ebonee Coates, a 2004 Blue Star Index Top 100 senior.

Lewis hails from Portsmouth, Ohio and attended University of Southern Mississippi, earning his bachelor's degree in athletic administration and coaching.
