Varsity Four Wins at WSU
April 22, 2006
The Varsity four kicked off the day with a solid win. The Stanford boat had a slight advantage at the 500 meter mark over both WSU 'A' and WSU 'B'. The Cardinal stretched this margin to four seconds over the Cougars by the finish.
The Stanford second varsity crossed the 500 meter mark just slightly down to WSU. The Stanford boat never settled into their rhythm by rowing an unusually high stroke rate as the Cougars built a six second margin by the finish.
The No. 16 Stanford Varsity eight came out strong in thier race against the No. 7 ranked Cougars and grabbed a lead off the start. WSU closed the margin gradually over the rest of the course and finished with a three second margin.
Head Coach Aimee Baker comments on the event, 'The WSU team has a very strong team. Each of their boats raced very tough down the stretch. It was great competition for our squad as we work to gain speed each week leading up to the Pac-10 Championship.'
Next up for the Stanford women will be the final dual race of the season as they Cardinal play host to California next Saturday, April 29 at Redwood Shores.
