Bruin Alum Krystal McFarland-Jackson To Play in Beach Volleyball World University Games

Former UCLA women's volleyball player Krystal McFarland -Jackson has earned a funded spot on USA Volleyball's for the World University Championships beach volleyball competition. The Championship will take place June 14-18 in Protaras, Cyprus. McFarland-Jackson and her partner, Leanne Haarbauer of National University, won a qualifier in El Segundo, Calif., over Easter weekend. The tournament was sponsored by USAV and the Aloha Ball Club.

'We were the top seeded team in the tournament,' said McFarland-Jackson, 'and the final match was 21-10, 20-10. We are going to train to be in the best shape possible for us when we go to Cyprus to compete for a gold medal. No matter what happens once we're there, we are going to have a great experience. Representing the United States is a huge honor.'

Americans Chrissie Zartman and Tracy Lindquist won the gold medal at the first World University Beach Volleyball Championship in 2002 in the French Antilles and finished fourth in 2004 in Thailand. Both are now players on the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) Tour.
