Cougars Conclude First Day at Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - The Washington State women's tennis team finished its first day of competition at the Pacific-10 Championships. The five Cougars participating in the Pac-10 Championships failed to make it the second day of singles play.
In the Pac-10 singles, Amy Toth, Aleksandra Cekic and Ekaterina Burduli were ousted in the first round. Toth fell to Oregon's Ceci Olivos, 6-3, 6-3. Burduli fell to No. 61 Riza Zalameda of UCLA, 6-4, 6-1. Cekic took Oregon's Carmen Seremeta to a third set, but fell 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.
Junior transfer Marjolein van de Ven, the lone Cougar to advance to the second round, fell to Cal's Bojana Bobusic, 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Aleksandra Stefanova was downed by Lejla Hodzic of Stanford, 6-3, 6-3, in round one.
The Cougars we have four athletes back on the Courts, Friday, April 28, as they will compete in the Pac-10 doubles and the Invitational Pac-10 doubles.
