Sheridan, Andersson Named Second-Team All-Pac-10

April 27, 2006

BERKELEY, Calif. - California seniors Sophia Sheridan and Sofie Andersson were selected second-team All-Pac-10 Wednesday following the conclusion of the 2006 Pac-10 Championships.

Sheridan has earned All-Pac-10 recognition four times, including two second-team honors. Andersson, who transferred to Cal after her freshman season at Mississippi State, garnered her third All-Pac-10 accolade. Last year, Andersson also was tabbed to the second team.

Cal finished fourth at this year's Pac-10 Championships on the strength of Sheridan tying for third place (even-par 216) and Andersson tying for 15th (10-over 226).

Andersson, who owns seven top-20 showings and has led Cal in five events this season, paces the Bears with a 74.0 stroke average. Sheridan boasts the second-best stroke average on the team and has finished in the top 15 in six of her last seven tournaments. She has posted the team's top finish four times.

Sheridan, from Guadalajara, Mexico, and Andersson, from Angelholm, Sweden, have propelled Cal to a current No. 11 national ranking after the program began the fall not ranked in the top 25. The Bears expect to earn their seventh consecutive NCAA regional bid May 1. The NCAA regionals will be staged May 11-13.
