USA Names Junior World Cup Team

Norman, Okla. - The GCAA and the Junior Orange Bowl Committee released the 2006 USA Junior World Golf Cup team. Those set to represent their country are Jordan Cox, Kyle Stanley, James Swafford and Alex Volpenhein. The competition will take place June 20-23 at Chukyo Country Club in Toyota City, Japan.
Cox is a senior at Junipero Serra High School in Redwood City, Calif. He competed on the West Canon Cup Team in both 2004 and 2005. Cox won the 2005 Rolex Tournament of Champions and was medalist at the California State Amateur. He won the Junior Open Championship in 2004. Cox will attend Stanford next year.
Stanley hails from Gig Harbor, Wash, and attends Bellarmine Prep. He was a 2005 AJGA First-Team All- American and competed on the West Canon Cup Team. In 2004, Stanley was named the Washington Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. He won the 2005 AJGA HP Boys Championship and the 2004 AJGAHargray Junior, The Americas Cup and the MCI Junior Heritage. Stanley will attend Clemson.
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Swafford is a senior at Maclay Prep. He was a 2004-05 EA Sports High School All-American and was an AJGA Second-Team All-America selection. Swafford won the 2005 SJGT University of Georgia Junior Invitational. In 2004, he claimed the Burget Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic, the SJGT Landings Junior, the North Florida Section PGA Junior, the Press Thornton Future Masters and the second of three SJGT University of Georgia Junior Invitationals. Swafford will attend Georgia in the fall.
The Cincinnati Enquirer Player of the Year in both 2003 and `04, Volpenhein attends Covington Catholic High School and hails from Edgewood, Ky. He won both the Westfield Junior PGA Championship and the Calloway PGA Junior Series Kearney Hills. He also placed first at his U.S. Amateur and U.S. Junior qualifiers last summer. Volpenhein will attend Kentucky.
