April 28, 2006
OJAI, California - Members of the Husky women's tennis team earned a pair of wins on the second day of the Pac-10 Championships this afternoon, one in singles and one in doubles at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club. However, if the Huskies take to the courts again this weekend it will be only in consolation play.
Washington's only entrant in the main doubles draw, which began today, was the team of Dinka Hadzic and Victoria Brymer. The two lost their first round match to UCLA's Laura Gordon and Riza Zalameda, 8-4. In the invitational doubles draw, Huskies Tara Simpson and Stephanie Svanfeldt bested the Stanford team of Doheny and Leck, 8-3. Simpson and Svanfeldt were eliminated in the quarterfinals, however, losing 8-5 to Claire Ilcinkas and Marion Ravelojaona of Cal.
Brymer and Allison Rainey also participated in consolation singles matches today. Brymer was victorious in her outing, defeating Arizona's Stephanie Balzert, 6-2, 6-4. USC's Anca Anastasiu defeated Rainey, 6-4, 6-4.
The Pac-10 Championships continue through Sunday, but it is not known whether the Huskies will be in action tomorrow.
