April 28, 2006
Freshman Boldizsar Kocsor upset USC's Adam Midles on Friday in the hammer throw competition at the 73rd annual dual meet match-up between USC and UCLA, throwing a new lifetime-best of 212-11. Midles was second with a throw of 210-9, while Trojan Noah Bryant was third with a mark of 191-1.
On the day, Kocsor set two lifetime-bests, with the first coming in the round one, throwing 206-11, to take an early lead. Kocsor would never relinquish his lead as he extended his lifetime-best to 212-11 in the second round. His mark also broke the freshman record, which he had set three times prior this season, and moves him to No. 4 all-time at UCLA.
The new mark also moves Kocsor into the No. 13 spot on the collegiate national list and third in the West Region.
UCLA now holds a 5-4 lead after the first event of the meet. Competition continues on Saturday with field events beginning at 11:00 am and running events at 11:55 am.
