No. 23 Men's Tennis Wraps up a Successful Second Day at the Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - The No. 23 California men's tennis team opened doubles play with two wins in the first round and one in the second round on Friday during the second day of action at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif.
Seniors Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace picked up two wins in the opening rounds on Friday. In the first round, Maack and Wallace defeated Arizona's Claudio Christen and Jeff Groslimond, 8-4. The duo faced Arizona State's T.J. Bellama and Jonathan Kinsella in the second round, defeating them, 8-2. On Saturday, Maack and Wallace will face UCLA's dynamic pair of Philipp Gruendler and Benjamin Kohlloeffel, in the semifinals.
Cal's other doubles pair of juniors Daniel Sebescen and John Pettit picked up a win against Washington's Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic, 8-5, in the first round. Sebescen and Pettit fell in the second round to UCLA's Mathieu Dehain and Jeremy Drean, 8-3.
On the singles court, fourth-ranked senior Conor Niland posted a win in the third round to advance to tomorrow's semifinal match against Stanford's Matt Bruch. On Friday, Niland defeated Stanford's James Pade in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Also on the singles courts, senior Dean Wallace defeated USC's Whit Livingston on Friday in the invite bracket. It took three sets for Wallace to seal the victory, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Later Friday afternoon Wallace squared off against Washington's David Chu beating him in two sets, 7-5, 6-1.
The Pac-10 Championships continue in Ojai, Calif., through Sunday. The matches are being held at Libbey Park. Niland's singles match on Saturday begins at 9:30 a.m. (PDT) with doubles following at 3:30 p.m. (PDT).
