No. 5/6 Stanford Falls To Oregon, 9-0

Eugene, Ore. - No. 5/6 Stanford Softball (33-11, 6-7) fell to Oregon (20-18, 2-8) today, 9-0. Oregon's Alicia Cook collected her first no-hitter of the year with one strikout in five innings. The Ducks tallied four runs in the bottom of the third inning, adding five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with a grand slam by sophomore Joanna Gail.

After two and a half innings without a run by either team, Oregon's Kristi Jorgensen was hit by a pitch to get on base in the top of the third inning. Suzie Barnes hit a triple down the right line to score Jorgensen and the Ducks took the lead, 1-0. Sari-Jane Jenkins followed with a single to center field, scoring Barnes from third base. Breanne Sabol then knocked a double off the center field fence to score Jenkins for the 3-0 Duck advantage. Beth Boskovich continued the Oregon hitting streak with a double to right field, scoring Sabol. After entering the game midway through the inning, senior pitcher Laura Severson struck out one batter to end the inning with a 4-0 Duck lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sabol hit her second double of the day and Jenkins followed with a single up the middle. With runners on first and third, Lovena Chaput knocked a double to center field to score Sabol for the fifth Duck run of the day. Kayleen Hudson was walked to load the bases and Gail hammered a grand slam over the left field fence to score all three runners. Oregon claimed the win, 9-0.

The Cardinal now heads to Corvallis to take on the eighth-ranked Beavers tomorrow and Sunday, with both games beginning at 1:00 pm.
