Results from Day One of the Men's Tennis Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - The 2006 Men's Tennis Pac-10 Championships kicked off Friday in Ojai, CA which left only one Sun Devil, Jonathan Kinsella standing, as he advanced to semifinals after defeating Mike Myrhed of Oregon and Pierre Metenier of Washington. Semifinals for singles and the start of doubles action will be held on Friday.

Kinsella's fellow Devils had a tough day on the courts as T.J. Bellama fell to UCLA's Aaron M. Yovan in the first round in a 6-2, 7-5 decision while his teammate, Wes Miller follwed suit losing 6-2, 6-1 to Washington's Alex Slovic. Nick Hegarty was also unable to escape the first round as he dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Jeff Groslimond of Arizona.

Kinsella was unstoppable on the day though as in the first round he easily defeated Oregon's Mike Myrhed in a 6-2, 6-2 decision and followed it with another 7-5, 6-3 win over Pierre Metenier of Washington. Kinsella is set to face off against Stanford's Matt Bruch tomorrow in the semifinal round of singles play.

Doubles play will also begin tomorrow, which will see the Devil duo of Jonathan Kinsella and T.J. Bellama face off against Washington's Klaus Jank and Andy Kuharszky and Nick Hegarty and Wes Miller facing Dejan Cvetkovic and Kaes Van't Hof of USC in the first round.
