LOS ANGELES - UCLA senior 3B Andrea Duran had a solo home run and her first collegiate grand slam on Friday afternoon, as top-ranked UCLA (38-5, 10-3 Pac-10) defeated third-ranked Arizona (34-9, 5-6) by a score of 8-2. Anjelica Selden struck out 11, including eight consecutive outs via strikeouts, in her 23rd win of the season.

Fans planning to attend Saturday's game between UCLA and Arizona State should plan extra time to arrive at the stadium, as campus is hosting both the UCLA-USC track meet and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

Arizona struck first, as Autumn Champion put down a one-out bunt single and stole second base. After Kristie Fox struck out for the second out of the inning, Selden issued three consecutive walks, forcing Champion home for the first run of the game.

The Bruins answered in the bottom half of the frame. Andrea Duran took the first pitch from Arizona's Leslie Wolfe up the middle for a single, was sacrificed to second by Krista Colburn and scored from second base on an RBI single up the middle by Emily Zaplatosch, tying the game at 1-1.

In the fifth, Duran led off the game with a solo home run, her 11th of the season, and Zaplatosch added her sixth homer of the season three batters later, hitting a monster shot that easily cleared the scoreboard in left field.

The sixth inning saw Whitney Holum start aa rally with a single to shallow left field. She went to second base on a walk to Ashley Herrera and a Tara Henry slap-hit single loaded the bases for Andrea Duran, who took an inside pitch just over the left field fence for a grand slam home run, her 12th homer of the season and first grand slam of her UCLA career.

Selden finished with 11 strikeouts and scattered three hits in the game as she earned her 23rd victory of the season.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday with a 2 pm first pitch against Arizona State. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the UCLA-USC track meet and Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will create heavy traffic on campus tomorrow. Sunday's 1 pm game between the Bruins and Sun Devils is sold out.
