Bears Advance to Finals in Singles and Doubles at Pac-10's

Ojai, Calif. - The ninth-ranked California women's tennis team wrapped up day three Saturday of the 2006 Pac-10 Championships, as Suzi Fodor advances to tomorrow's singles finals and will also compete with for the conference doubles crown with partner Suzi Babos. Competition is being held at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif. Sunday's competition will determine the league's singles and doubles champions.
In the singles semifinals championship draw, Fodor, a junior from Budapest, Hungary, defeated USC's Lindsey Nelson, 6-1, 6-1, and will advance to tomorrow's finals. Fodor is 32-13 overall this season on the singles court.
Fodor then teamed up with Babos, who is a sophomore from Sopron, Hungary, to outlast Laura Gordon and Riza Zalameda of UCLA, 8-4, in the championship draw of the doubles semifinals. The duo currently boasts an 18-7 doubles record.
In other singles action, Claire Ilcinkas fell to UCLA's Ashley Joelson, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals invitational draw. Teammate Marion Ravelojaona was also knocked out of the semifinals, dropping her set to Stanford's Jessica Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0.
On the doubles court, Ilcinkas and Ravelojaona were defeated by Oregon's Claudia Hirt and Anna Powaska, 8-5, in the semifinals invitational draw.
Pac-10 Championship action wraps up tomorrow when Fodor will face off in the singles finals of the championship draw against USC's Amanda Fink at 9:30 a.m. Fodor and Babos will then compete for the Pac-10 doubles crown at 12:30 p.m. (PST) against Stanford's Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey.
