No. 5/6 Stanford Drops 4-0 Game To No. 8/9 Oregon State

Corvallis, Ore. - No. 5/6 Stanford Softball (34-12, 7-8) fell to No. 8/9 Oregon State (38-8, 9-5), 4-0, this afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex. The Beavers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Paige Lowe and Cambria Miranda each hit an RBI single. Oregon State added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with a home run by Lisa Allen.

After three scoreless innings, junior outfielder Jackie Rinehart collected the Cardinal's first hit of the game in the top of the fourth to get on base. Senior infielder Lauren Lappin reached with a base hit to right field, but the inning ended runless for the Cardinal.

Brianne McGowan was walked on base for the Beavers in the bottom of the fourth inning. Maggie DeWall collected a base hit and Kellie Roberts entered the game to pinch run for McGowan at second base. Lowe knocked a base hit to the center field fence, advancing to second on the throw and scoring Roberts for the OSU lead. Miranda then hit a single to left field to bring home DeWall. After four innings, Oregon State led the Cardinal, 2-0.

Oregon State's Adrienne Alo was walked on base in the bottom of the fifth inning. Allen then hit a home run over the left field fence to score two more runs and put the Beavers ahead, 4-0.

Freshman pitcher Missy Penna struck out two batters in the bottom of the sixth to bring the Cardinal to the plate. Lappin was then hit by a pitch to open the seventh inning. Freshman infielder Maddy Coon hit a hard single up the middle to advance Lappin around to third base and senior Megan Bordelon entered the game to pinch run for Coon at first. Sophomore infielder Michelle Smith was walked to load the bases, but McGowan struck out three batters to end the inning for the Beaver win.

In the circle, Penna struck out six batters and allowed six hits in six innings. In seven innings, the Beavers' McGowan allowed three hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters.

In three games over the weekend, Lappin hit .571 with three RBI, one run and one home run. Rinehart tallied a .500 average with two runs and one RBI.

Stanford is set to play San Jose State on Tuesday, May 2 (7:00 pm). The Cardinal then heads south to take on Arizona State and Arizona on May 5-7.
