PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 24-30:

Men's Track Athlete of the Week: PHILIP FRANCIS, USC (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.). Francis won the 100m, 200m and was on the winning 4x100m relay team. He ran a PR 10.23 in the 100m dash, which tied for 10th best in school history. Francis won the 200m with a Pac-10 leading time of 20.59, which is also a PR. The 4x100m team ran a season-best 39.75.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week: SEAN SHIELDS, ARIZONA (Sr., Pismo Beach, Calif.). Shields continued his strong 2006 season with a victory in the shot put at the Arizona-ASU-NAU Double Dual on April 29. Shields' best toss in the shot put of 19.74 (64-9 1/4) was over seven feet further than his closest competition. His throw in the discus of 57.27m (187-10) was good enough for second place. Shields currently has the No. 3 shot put throw and No. 4 discus throw in the NCAA during the 2006 season.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week: ARIANNA LAMBIE, STANFORD (Jr., Harvard, Mass.). Lambie helped lead Stanford to an American record and two school records at the Penn Relays. Lambie ran the anchor leg on Stanford's American record setting 4 x 1500 meter relay team. Lambie ran her 1500 meters in a time of 4:15.3. The team of Amanda Trotter, Lauren Centrowitz, Katy Trotter and Lambie chalked up an American record time of 17:18.83. That was also a school record, and the second fastest collegiate time ever. Just a day earlier, Lambie ran the anchor leg on the distance medley relay team which set a school record of 10:58.72.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: KAREN FREBERG, USC (Sr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.). Freberg took first in the shot put in a Dual Meet with UCLA. She bettered the previous school record of 56-3 1/4 held by L'Orangerie Crawford by throwing a 57-7 1/2 (17.56m).

MEN'S FIELD - April 10 - Mike Landers, UCLA (PV). April 17 - Adam Kuehl, ARIZ (DT). April 24 - Will Conwell, WASH (DT). May 1 - Sean Shields, ARIZ (SP/DT).

WOMEN'S TRACK - April 10 - Chauntae Bayne-Hackett, STAN (100M/4x100/4x400). April 17 - Virginia Powell, USC (100MH). April 24 - Chauntae Bayne-Hackett, STAN (100M/200M/4x100). May 1 - Arianna Lambie, STAN (4/1500).

WOMEN'S FIELD - April 10 - Chelsea Johnson, UCLA (PV). April - 17 - Britney Henry, ORE (HT). April 24 - Sarah Hopping, STAN (HT). May 1 - Karen Freberg, USC (SP).
