Andersson Named Most Valuable Player

BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Sofie Andersson was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2005-06 California women's golf team Tuesday night at the team's annual banquet at the Haas Pavilion Club Room.
Andersson earned her second consecutive team MVP award by boasting the team's lowest stroke average at 74.0. The native of Angelholm, Sweden, has led the Bears in five tournaments this season and owns four top six showings.
Junior Mika Takayama was tabbed Cal's Most Improved Player. A product of Alameda, Takayama maintains a 76.6 stroke average after posting a 78.1 average last season.
Andersson and senior Sophia Sheridan were co-recipients of the team's Founders' Award, which is given in recognition of the program's steering committee, to two individuals who best exemplify the commitment and enthusiasm for the ongoing success of the team.
Andersson also was honored with the team's best short game award, and Sheridan earned the Workout Award.
Freshman Shannon Yocum was chosen for the Leta Nelson Award, which is given in Nelson's memory to the golfer who best demonstrates the spirit of Cal.
