May 4, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash - Washington State women's tennis sophomore Ekaterina Burduli was selected as the third alternate Thursday for the NCAA Singles Championship to be held at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center, May 23-28.

Burduli will make her way to California if three or more of the 64 players in the championship field withdraw from competition.

'We are proud of Ekaterina and her accomplishments this season,' WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'She's been the leader of our program the last two years.'

Burduli upset No. 31 Ramona But of Maryland 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 last September marking the highest ranked opponent defeated by a Cougar this year.

The Israel native compiled 25 singles victories this season and led the team in dual match victories with 17.
