Conor Niland Earns Sixth Seed in the NCAA Singles Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - California senior men's tennis player Conor Niland received the sixth seed overall for the NCAA Singles Championships, and will also compete in the NCAA doubles with partner junior Tyler Browne the NCAA announced today. Both the singles and doubles competitions will be held during May 24-29 at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., following the team championships on May 20-23.
Niland, the sixth-ranked player in the country by the ITA, held the nation's longest winning streak of 19-0, before Washington's Alex Slovic defeated him in the final dual match of the season, 7-5, 6-1. The Limerick, Ireland native, fell in the semifinals of the Pac-10 tournament to the eventual Pac-10 singles champion Stanford's Matt Bruch. Niland has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week three times this season.
Niland will join Browne on the doubles court at the NCAA Championship. The pair boasts a 6-5 record this season. The two upset Baylor's then-sixth-ranked Matija Zgaga and Jon Reckewey, 8-4, in late February.
Niland and Browne will compete with the Bears in the NCAA Team Championships which begin on Saturday, May 13 with their first-round match against Santa Barbara in Stanford, Calif., at the Taube Tennis Center.
