Reuter in 8th-Place After Day One of Pac-10 Decathlon Championship

Freshman Matthew Reuter stands in eighth-place after day one of the 2006 Pac-10 Decathlon Championship, presented by 76 ProClean Gasolines in Eugene, OR. The freshman scored a new lifetime-best with his first day point total, 3,402 points, and is poised to score UCLA's first points of the Pac-10 Championships after posting five season or lifetime-best marks.
Reuter started the day off with a new lifetime-best in the 100m (11.60), picking up 713 points. In the second event of the day, the long jump, Reuter jumped out to a lifetime-best of just over 21-feet (6.41m) for 677 points. Reuter threw a season-best 35-11.50 in the shot put (543 pts.), and followed that up with another season-best, this time in the high jump, clearing 6-3.50 for 731 points. In the final event of the day, the 400m, Reuter ran 52.12 for 719 points, as he ended the first day of competition with 3,402 points.
Competition continues on Saturday with the final five events of the decathlon - 100m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
