Softball Downs Oregon State, 1-0
May 6, 2006
CORVALLIS, Ore. - An Andrea Duran double followed by an RBI single from Caitlin Benyi was all the offense that UCLA (42-5, 14-3 Pac-10) would need on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore., as the Bruins posted a 1-0 victory over Oregon State.
After a first-inning single from Emily Zaplatosch, the Bruin bats went quiet while Oregon State tallied four hits through the first three innings. After Cambria Miranda notched her second single of the game to lead off the third inning and was sacrificed to second, the Bruins replaced starting pitcher Lisa Dodd with Anjelica Selden, who retired the two batters she faced to end the third inning.
The scoreless tie continued until the top of the fifth, when the Bruins broke the scoreless tie. Andrea Duran knocked a one-out double off the wall in centerfield and advanced to third on a foul ball caught over the fence just past the Bruin dugout by Krista Colburn. A single to left was enough to plate Duran, giving UCLA a 1-0 lead after four and a half innings of play.
Dodd finished with two strikeouts during her two and a third innings in the circle while Selden finished with seven K's, including the side in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Bruins and Beavers finish the season series on Sunday at noon in Corvallis.
