Richards Finishes 9th at Pac-10 Heptathlon Championship

Sophomore Georgea Richards finished just one spot out of a scoring positition at the Pac-10 Heptathlon Championship in Eugene, OR, placing ninth overall with a new season-best score of 4,838 points. In the second day of competition, Richards recored season-best marks in the javelin and 800m for a heptathlon competition.
ASU's Jackie Johnson easily won the meet, picking up an NCAA automatic total of 5,987 points. Washington State's returning league champion Julie Pickler finished second (5,560) and Oregon senior Lauryn Jordan was third (5,378).
Richards had a tough start to the second day of the heptathlon, jumping just 5.23m in the long jump to score 623 points. She rebounded to throw a heptathlon season-best of 101-10 in the javelin (496 pts.), then finished the meet with a heptathlon season-best of 2:30.06 in the 800m, scoring 692 points.
Richards' two-day score of 4,838 points improved on her old season-best (4,826 pts.) set in April at the Mt. SAC Heptathlon.
Miller achieved a regional qualifying mark in the high jump, clearing a season-best 5-8.75 to finish fourth overall in the invitational section. Nguyen won the open section of the pole vault, jumping 13-3.50. She also competed in the invitational section, and finish sixth overall with a jump of 12-11.50.
Senior Chelsea Johnson finished fifth in the invitational pole vault, clearing 13-5.25. Sophomore Elizabeth Woepse, competing in the open vault, equaled her lifetime and season-best, jumping 12-11.50 to finish third overall. Also in the open section, sophomores Ingrid Kantola and Megan Jamerson each cleared 11-11.75 to finish in a tie for sixth-place.
The women's team will next head to the Pac-10 Track & Field Championships, hosted by Oregon, May 13-14.
