Sobieralski Finishes in Fifth at the Pac-10 Multi Events

EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Scott Sobieralski finished fifth in the decathlon and redshirt freshman Tifani Grimes placed seventh in the heptathlon at the 2006 Pac-10 Multi Event Championships, presented by 76 ProClean Gasolines, in Eugene, Ore., on Sunday.
Sobieralski finished the two day event with a total of 6946 points. On Sunday, Sobieralski posted a 14.92 in the 110m hurdles, 35.76m in the discus, 4.75m in the pole vault, 52.62m in the javelin and 4:55.73 in the 1500m. In the first day of the decathlon, he was clocked at 11.46 in the 100m, jumped 6.50m in the long jump, threw the shot put 12.78m, was marked at 1.89m in the high jump and ran 52.70 in the 400m. Sobieralski is the only Golden Bear to compete in the decathlon and he earned four points for Cal.
In the second day of the heptathlon, Grimes recorded 5.29m in the long jump, 37.22 in the javelin throw and 2:29.50 in the 800m, finishing with a point total of 5034 for seventh. On the first day Grimes was clocked at 14.33 in the 100m hurdles and 26.37 in the 200m. She was marked at 1.66m in the high jump and 10.74 in the shot put. For her seventh place finish, Grimes collected two points for the Bears.
Also in the heptathlon Artensia Young placed 11th with 4636 points. In the final day, she tallied a 5.36 in the long jump, 23.67m in the javelin throw and clocked at 2:32.29 in the 800m. Young posted a 14.25 in the 100m hurdles, 1.57m in the high jump, 9.56m in the shot put and 25.76 in the 200m.
The entire track and field team will head to Eugene for the 2006 Pac-10 Championships, presented by 76 ProClean Gasolines on May 13-14. The meet will be held at Hayward field.
