Troy Selected As No. 6 Seed In NCAA Championships Central Regional

May 8, 2006

USC's No. 19 men's golf team, featuring the nation's third longest active streak of NCAA Championships appearances, will make it 37 in a row this year as the Trojans will participate in the 2006 NCAA East Regional, the NCAA announced on Monday (May 8).

Three 27-team regional tournaments (including six individual players) will be conducted May 18-20 to determine the final championship field, set for May 31-June 3, at Sunriver, Ore. Ten teams from each of the West, Central and East regions will advance to the NCAA final.

The East Regional, hosted by Central Florida and the Central Florida Sports Commission, will take place at the Lake Nona G.C. in Orlando, Fla.

Troy's regional features defending NCAA title winner No. 1 Georgia (ranked by Golfweek.com), 2006 Pac-10 champion No. 5 UCLA, No. 9 UNLV, Colonial champion No. 11 Georgia State, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 16 Wake Forest, Atlantic 10 winner No. 24 Charlotte and Big South champion No. 25 Coastal Carolina.

USC is coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships. Troy's 37th consecutive NCAA berth leaves it behind only Wake Forest (40) and Oklahoma State (60). USC is one of six Pac-10 schools in the 81-team field (the others being Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, UCLA and Washington).

The Trojans advanced out of the NCAA Regional in 2005 after surviving a three-team playoff with Pepperdine and South Carolina for the 10th and final NCAA final qualifying spot.
