PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of May 1-7:

Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week: ROBERT ARNOLD, ARIZONA (Jr., Santa Rosa, Calif.). Junior All-American Robert Arnold claimed his first ever Pac-10 decathlon title on May 7, finishing the two-day competition with a personal-best score of 7,691. This was 484 points ahead of his closest competitor. Arnold had individual event marks of 11.20 in the 100 meters, 6.80m in the long jump, 13.51 in the shot put, 1.98m in the high jump, 50.04 in the 400 meters, 14.65 in the 110-meter hurdles, 40.38m in the discus, 4.95m in the pole vault, 57.82m in the javelin and 4:45.41 in the 1,500 meters. He netted the top score in four of the ten events. His score is No. 6 all-time on the Arizona Top-10 list, and is an NCAA automatic qualifier.

Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week: JACQUELYN JOHNSON, ASU (So., Yuma, Ariz.). Johnson won her second Pac-10 heptathlon crown over the weekend, scoring a personal-best 5,987 points and missing the meet record by two points (Kelly Blair of Oregon, 5,989 in 1993). Her total was good enough for a 427-point victory over runner-up Julie Pickler of Washington State and moved her into the No. 2 position on ASU's all-time Top-10 list in the event. She's become the second Pac-10 heptathlon champion to score 5,900 or more points in the meet. Johnson now ranks No. 4 on the all-time Pac-10 list in the event after winning five of the seven individual events on the weekend while setting three personal bests and regionally qualifying in the 100m hurdles (13.49), the high jump (1.78m/5-10) and the javelin (43.62m/143-1). Johnson's javelin mark also ranks as the No. 10 toss in ASU history.
