Chris Minaker Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford senior shortstop Chris Minaker earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career for the period ending Monday, May 8. Minaker hit .467 (7-15) with three homers and five RBI, while also scoring five runs and contributing a 1.067 slugging percentage to lead an improving Stanford club to three victories in four games.'His week was highlighted by a huge performance in a 3-2 win over California last Friday when he blasted a pair of two-out solo homers against Golden Bear ace Brandon Morrow and then singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth before eventually scoring the game-winning run later in the inning. Minaker was also 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in a 6-2 win over San Jose State on Tuesday and 2-for-3 with a pair of walks versus California on Saturday. He ran his season-high hit streak to 12 games before it was finally snapped on Sunday.
Minaker leads the team in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.360, #8 Pac-10), homers (career-high 8, #8T Pac-10), RBI (career-high 48, #5 Pac-10), stolen bases (5), runs scored (29), hits (64, #9 Pac-10), doubles (13), total bases (105, #6T Pac-10), slugging percentage (.590, #8 Pac-10), multiple-hit games (20) and multiple-RBI contests (14). He also paces the Pac-10 with 148 assists and was errorless in 15 straight games before committing a miscue against California on May 7.
Minaker becomes the first Stanford player to win the honor this season and the 59th in the history of Stanford Baseball.
Stanford begins a five-game road swing with a non-conference contest at Santa Clara on Tuesday, May 9 (6 pm, PT). The Cardinal will also play at Sacramento State on Wednesday, May 10 (2:30 pm, PT), before visiting Washington for another critical three-game Pac-10 series Friday-Sunday, May 12-14 (6:30 pm, 2 pm, 1 pm, PT).
