WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Pacific-10 Conference has named Kristine Lara Administrative Fellow, a two-year position in championship administration and the administration of sports programs for the 2006-08 academic years, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
A native of Elk Grove, Calif., Lara is a 2006 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in physical education and a minor in Spanish. A four-year letterwinner for the Blazer softball team, she was named the Undergraduate Student of the Year by the Physical Education Department in 2006, as well an Academic All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
Lara has spent the past year as the Conference USA representative to the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, having served as UAB's SAAC secretary in 2002-04, as well as the SAAC president, 2004-06.
Most recently, Lara has been serving as an athletics department intern at UAB, working with the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance, assisting in the day-to-day operations of the office. She is responsible for the creation, distribution and collection of forms for the Special Assistance Fund.
The emphasis of the administrative fellowship program is to prepare former student-athletes with an interest in a career in athletics for eventual placement with an athletics department of a college institution or for an administrative position in a conference office or similar institution.
