Stanford's Chris Minaker and Washington's Tim Lincecum Named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

May 9, 2006

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD senior shortstop Chris Minaker has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON junior right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum has been named Pitcher of the Week for May 2 - 8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Minaker, from Lynnwood, Wash., hit .467 (7-for-15) last week with three homers and five RBI, while also scoring five runs and contributing a 1.067 slugging percentage. His week was highlighted by a huge performance in a 3-2 win over California last Friday, when he blasted a pair of two-out solo homers, and later singled leading off the bottom of the ninth to eventually score the game-winning run later in the inning. Minaker was also 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 6-2 win over San Jose State on Tuesday and 2-for-3 with a pair of walks vs. Cal on Saturday. He ran his season-high hit streak to 12 games before it was finally snapped on Sunday.

Lincecum, from Renton, Wash., struck out 16 batters in eight innings in last Friday's 6-4 win at then-No. 5 Oregon State. The right-hander, who allowed five hits and four runs in his 11th victory this season, earned his 460th career strikeout to break the Pac-10 record. For his effort, Lincecum earned his sixth National Player of the Week award this season from Collegiate Baseball.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of Minaker's career, while it is the 59th such honor for Stanford. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the ninth for Lincecum, his fifth this season, and the 38th selection all-time for Washington. Lincecum is the fifth Pac-10 baseball player in Conference history to earn five weekly honors in one season is tied for second on the Conference's all-time list for weekly honors in a career.
