Bruins Tied for First at NCAA Golf Regional

The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for first place after the first day of competition at the NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Washington at Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash.
The Bruins posted a team score of 288 (E) and were tied with the host Huskies for the first round lead. Purdue was third at 289 (+1), followed by Georgia at 296 (+8), Arkansas 299 (+11) and UC Irvine at 301 (+13). Stanford and Arizona were tied for seventh at 303 (+15). The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship in two weeks.
UCLA senior Susie Mathews opened with a score of 71 (-1) and was three shots off the pace tied for fourth place. Sophomore Amie Cochran and freshman Tiffany Joh were tied for seventh place at even par 72. Freshman Jane Park and junior Hannah Jun were tied for 14th place at 73 (+1).
Washington's Paige Mackenzie held the first round lead after firing a 68 (-4).
