'It was a good first match,' said junior Zsuzsanna Fodor. 'The first match is always hectic because of the excitement. Everyone got through and played well at the end.'

Cal clinched the match with three singles victories and abandoned play with the Bears leading 2-1 on courts four through six. Fodor, the nation's third-ranked player and the 2006 Pac-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Year, defeated the Broncos' Malena Remynse in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles position. 'As a team we still have a lot of work to do,' said assistant coach Amy Jensen. 'We need to keep everyone focused on the areas we need to improve because we're still not close to playing our best.'
