Stanford's Reynolds Blanks UW, 5-0

May 12, 2006

SEATTLE - Washington's Tim Lincecum suffered his first Pac-10 loss of the year as the Husky baseball team fell to Stanford, 5-0, Friday night at Husky Ballpark in the first game of a three-game conference series.

Lincecum (11-3) had won seven consecutive starts and entered the week leading the nation in victories. He had won all six of his starts in Pac-10 play. The Cardinal notched four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over Lincecum's seven innings. He walked two and struck out only five, his fewest since a five-inning start opening day.

Cardinal ace Greg Reynolds (6-3) picked up the shutout victory with his third straight complete game. He allowed eight hits (all singles) and one walk while striking out nine.

A crowd of 1,506 watched the UW fall to 32-21 overall and 9-10 in Pac-10 while the Cardinal improved to 25-21 overall and 8-11 in league play.

Stanford had a chance to take an early lead in the second. With Randy Molina at first, Chris Lewis belted a double to the track in center. Molina tried to score, but was thrown out at the plate on a relay throw from shortstop Danny Cox.

However, the Cardinal did break through for a run in the fourth. After a leadoff double from Chris Minaker, and a flyout that moved him to third, Molina bounced a single up the middle to give Stanford a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinal broke the game open with a four-hit, three-run fifth inning. With runners at first and second with one down, Michael Taylor drove in two runs with a single. After an error helped keep the inning going, Lewis hit a sacrifice fly that brought in a run to up the Stanford lead to 4-0.

In the eighth, the Cardinal tacked on their fifth run on an RBI single from Jim Rapoport. Minaker, Taylor and Rapoport each contributed two hits for the Cardinal. Four Huskies -- Jake Rife, Matt Hague, Curt Rindal and Cory Rickard -- notched two hits.

Washington had ample chances to score as the leadoff hitter was aboard in five of the first seven innings. However, three double plays and a runner thrown out at the plate trying to score on a grounder kept the UW out of the runs column. In the fifth, sixth and seventh, the Huskies' first two batters reached base, but Reynolds was able to work his way out of the jam each time.

The Huskies and Cardinal continue their three-game series Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. and close it out Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Both games will air live on KKNW AM-1150 while live video and stats will be avaiable via
