The Devils improved their record to 31-16 on the season and 9-7 in Pac-10 play.

Senior Brett Bordes took over in the eighth inning, his 103rd career appearance for the Devils, breaking the all-time record for appearances by a Sun Devil.

It was a pitcher's duel early until the Devils began the scoring in the fourth inning with Brett Wallace's sacrifice to left field, bringing home Colin Curtis to give the Sun Devils the 1-0 lead.

OSU answered in the top of the fifth scoring one run and again in the top of the sixth to give the Beavers the 2-1 lead.

The Devils battled back in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, OSU walked Eric Sogard which scored Preston Paramore. Ike Davis then singled through the right side, scoring Willy Fox and Curtis to give the Devils a 4-2 lead. J.J. Sferra also singled through the right side, bring home Sogard. CJ Retherford singled to right field scoring Davis. Sferra then scored on a wild pitch giving the Devils a 7-2 lead. Still in the seventh, Paramore doubled to center field, scoring Retherford. Paramore then scored on a single to center field by Seth Dhaenens. The Devils scored a total of eight runs in the seventh increasing their lead to 9-2.

The Beavers scored one run in the top of the eighth, but the Devils again pushed a run across when Davis singled up the middle to bring home Curtis.

Barnette allowed only six hits in his second straight start for ASU. He was the winner in the 22-8 victory over Arizona last week. The three runs batted in for Ike Davis give him 57 on the season, one short of the school record held by Casey Myers set in 1998. Davis was 3-4 on the night.

The second game of the series between the Beavers and Devils will be Saturday. First pitch is set for 6 PM.
