Paige Mackenzie won her second straight tournament title of the 2006 postseason at the NCAA West Regional, besting the 108-player field by eight strokes. The Washington senior shot 1-under 71 in the final round and finished the tournament with a career-best total score of 8-under 208.

The 24th-ranked Huskies shot 9-over 297 on the day to place third at 24-over 888 and advance to the NCAA Championship at Ohio State. Purdue won the West Regional with a total score of 17-over 881 after carding a 10-over 298 in round three. UCLA was second at 23-over 887. Also finishing in the top eight and advancing to the Championship were Stanford (896), Georgia (900), UNLV (904), Arizona (910) and Arkansas (911).

Mackenzie's 71 on the day was her sixth straight round under-par, dating back to the first round of the Pac-10 Championship, which Mackenzie also won. Her victory at the West Regional marked her 21st Top-10 finish at UW, the most in school history. She recorded three birdies on the day (holes four, eight and nine) as well as her only two bogeys of the 54-hole tournament (holes seven and 17). She is the second Husky to win the West Regional, as Dodie Mazzuca accomplished the feat in 1997.

Placing second and advancing to the NCAA Championship as an individual qualifier was BYU's Rachel Newren, who shot even-par 72 on the day and even-par 216 for the tournament. Purdue's Christel Boeljon was third (217), followed by UNLV's Da Sol Chung (218). Georgia State's Joanna Klatten, one of five players tied for fifth at 4-over 220, earned the other individual berth to the NCAA Championship.

Also tied for fifth overall was Husky junior Amber Prange, who shot 2-over 74 to finish at 4-over 220. In third position for the Huskies was Kim Shin, who shot 3-over 75 in round three to place 29th at 11-over 227. Sung Ea Lee shot 7-over 79 to finish 59th at 19-over 235, while Courtney McCracken's 5-over 77 placed her 75th at 22-over 238.
