UCLA Named Top Seed in NCAA Softball Tournament

UCLA, the 2006 Pac-10 Softball Champions, have been selected as the top seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament and will begin postseason play on Friday, May 19, at 5 pm PT against Missouri State at Easton Stadium. Every game of the Los Angeles Regional, which also includes Long Beach State and San Diego State, will be televised live by ESPNU.

Regional play will begin on Friday morning at noon at Easton Stadium. Game times for the tournament are as follows:

Game 1 2:30 pm - #2 San Diego State vs. #3 Long Beach State
Game 2 5 pm - #1 UCLA vs. #4 Missouri State

Game 3 2:30 pm - Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2
Game 4 5 pm - Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2
Game 5 7:30 pm- Loser Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4

Game 4 2 pm - Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 5
Game 5 4:30 pm- If Necessary

Tickets will be available at the gate. A three-day All-Sessions ticket is $28 for adults and $16 for students. Single-day passes are $10 for adults and $6 for students.

With its selection to the 2006 NCAA tournament field, UCLA has now been invited to 23 of a possible 25 Regional Tournaments. The Bruins have won 10 NCAA (1982-84-85-88-89-90-92-99-2003-04) and 11 total National Championships (1978 AIAW), and have played in the NCAA Championship game or series a record 18 times. UCLA won the 1995 NCAA Championship, but its participation in that tournament was later vacated by the NCAA. The Bruins were not invited to the NCAA tournament on two occasions, in 1986, and in 1998, a year in which UCLA was ineligible for postseason play.
