UW Men Second, Women Third in Pac-10 Crew Standings

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Three Washington men's crews and one women's boat finished second in their respective races, Sunday at the Pac-10 Conference rowing championship on Lake Natoma.

The Huskies placed second to California in the men's team standings. UW amassed 59 points, finishing behind the Golden Bears' total of 72. Oregon State had a 46-point, third-place total, followed by Stanford (43), USC (26), Washington State (18), UCLA (14) and Oregon (5).

Washington had a third-place point total of 59 in the women's standings. Defending national champion California tallied 67 points to win its second straight overall Pac-10 title. Washington State had a second-place total of 67. USC and Stanford had matching 51-point totals, but the Trojans were awarded fourth place by virtue of a superior finish in the varsity eight race. UCLA placed sixth with 48 points and Oregon State was seventh with 37.

The UW men had second-place performances in the second varsity eight, varsity four and freshman eight events. The seventh-ranked Husky varsity eight finished third behind No. 2 California and No. 3 Stanford.

Washington's first-year women were runners-up to Gonzaga in the novice eight race. The Huskies finished fourth in the women's varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four competitions.
